[If Steve is being honest, he knows this isn’t the greatest idea. He didn’t really mean for it to happen the way it did, his parents had asked him where he was the other day and when he mentioned Nancy’s house, he didn’t think they would really think anything of it. He was getting ready for work when his mother had ambushed him with the idea of dinner. Saying that they wanted to have dinner with Nancy since they had been together so long and that she and his father were happy that Steve was showing at least some initiative in life.
That’s usually how it went in conversations, both of his parents lecturing him on his dead end jobs and the types of people he hung out with. The fact that his parents were showing something close to happiness, Steve jumped at the chance to have dinner. And maybe it was a lie and it was going to end badly but just once Steve wanted to go to a dinner with his parents and have a nice night. He hoped it ended up going that way.
He dressed up for the occasion, telling Nancy the plan to dress nice, he was wearing khakis and a blazer over his t shirt. He offered to pick Nancy up and meet his parents at the restaurant, at least that way they could leave if anything went awry. He really didn’t want it to go awry.
Hopping out of the car when he got to Nancy’s house, he really hoped she would be the one to answer the door. He already had a cover story planned, some kind show they were going to as friends, he could lie and say he was picking up Robin next. The only problem with that plan was that he brought Nancy a rose, that was a little less easy to explain, it still seemed like the right thing to do, especially when she was doing him such a big favor. He knocked on the door, and twirled the rose in his hands, happy to have something to fiddle with while he waited.]
